Six Instagrammable Nashville Murals That You Haven’t Already Seen All Over Instagram
Six Instagrammable Nashville Murals That You Haven’t Already Seen All Over Instagram
Aside from moseying in and out of Music City’s infamous honkey tonks down on Broadway, one of the most popular tourist activities in Nashville is a creative endeavor that we like to call Mural Hunting. Similar to hunting game, mural hunting is an activity in which groups of adults strategically traverse the city in search of capturing images of Nashville’s most beautiful, iconic, and Instagram-worthy murals. iPhones in hand, people brave long lines and inclement weather to capture the shot. We’ll do anything for some likes on the ‘gram, won’t we!?
And while we at A Little Local Flavor are fans of nearly every piece of public art that Nashville has produced over the past decade — the amount is staggering, and it has really brought so much vivaciousness to our city! — there are a few unsung heroes that we think deserve a second look, and definitely a post on Instagram.
Check out our selection of 6 highly instagrammable Nashville murals that you probably haven’t already seen all over your feed:
The Big Headphones - The Listening Room
If you didn’t go hear any live music in Nashville...did you even go to Nashville? Regardless of whether you did or you didn’t, posting a pic of yourself with these huge, colorful headphones will allow all of your followers to forgive any of your musical trespasses. Located at The Listening Room Café in the heart of downtown, this place is one of Nashville’s best spots to check out songwriters and musicians on the rise, so it’s worth a stop anyhow. With great food, plenty of drink, and a location that’s just a hop, skip, and a jump from the honky tonks on Broadway, this mural is one you should easily be able to hit while you’re getting to know Music City. Don’t worry - we won’t tell if you don’t actually go inside and listen...
Drippy Lips Mural - Hillsboro Village
Located in the forever-cool Hillsboro Village, this kiss-filled wall known as the Drippy Lip Mural instantly makes you feel the love. Taking up an entire wall in the alleyway between Fido and UAL, this piece of art is an easy one to add to your mural hunting route. Stop by and strike a pose after caffeinating yourself at Fido, or snag some cool threads at UAL to give yourself more pizzazz before getting the shot. Whether you want to send some love out to all of your followers on social media, or you’re taking a personal pic to send to a particular loved one, they’ll be feeling all warm and fuzzy after seeing you posed in front of this public art — and so will you!
Spread Your Wings - Peg Leg Porker
Surely you’re familiar with the infamous Nashville Wings mural, right? The one that showcases a pair of massive, white, butterfly wings that’ve been painted on a plain, black wall? The one that people enjoy standing in front of so it looks as if they, themselves, have butterfly wings? That one in the Gulch that, on a daily basis, attracts a line of hundreds upon hundreds of patiently waiting people? The one that instigates line so long, it snakes around the building and down the street? Surely you know about those wings, but we happen to be partial to another set of wings that lives just around the corner: chicken wings. Similar to the bohemian-style wings, the Chicken Wings at Peg Leg Porker make for a similarly regal, albeit way more hilarious shot, that’ll certainly garner some likes. Post this original Nashville mural to your Instagram feed and just watch as all the cry-laughing emojis roll in. PS - Don’t forget to actually eat some wings -- or ribs!! -- while you’re there too! They’re knockout.
Make Music Not War - 12 South
Located in 12 South where Instagram-famous murals run rampant — we’re looking at you, I Believe in Nashville mural, Blue & White Wall outside of Draper James, and Madewell’s Looking Pretty in Music City mural (*just* to name a few!) — it can be exciting to find one that has a deeper meaning. The Make Music Not War mural located near Epice and White’s Mercantile is one we find ourselves proud to pose in front of. Because can’t we all agree that more music is definitely better than war? Keep making great music, Nashville!!
Love Y'all - Pencil and Paper @ Houston Station
Nashville is known for being a kind and welcoming town, and this Love Y’all mural outside the Pencil and Paper Co. in the Wedgewood Houston neighborhood’s creative hub, Houston Station, offers an example of that kindness as clear as day. Created by the endlessly talented duo known as I Saw The Sign, this piece of art adds a pop of warmth and cheer to Houston Station, and basically begs to have its photo taken. When you’re vacationing in Nashville and want to post a pic with something a little different than everyone else’s — but still with a mural that is very Nashville — this piece of artwork should be your go-to.
